Read This Before You Visit Legoland Windsor

We absolutely love LEGOLAND Windsor and have been visiting for years with our children. It's one of those places we return to time and time again because my children love the mix of building LEGO as well as the rides, it’s definitely our number one theme park in the UK. Surprisingly, so many friends have asked us, "Wait... there are rides as well as LEGO?" They assume it's simply a giant LEGO exhibition and that it’s not worth visiting unless your child is crazy about LEGO, but it's so much more than that.

I still remember visiting as a child myself, and now it's incredibly special to experience the park through my own children's eyes. We've recently invested in a Merlin Annual Pass, which means we visit even more often and have really got to know the park inside out.

One thing we've learnt is that you'll get so much more out of your visit once you know all the hidden details, insider tips and little LEGO "Easter eggs" scattered throughout the resort. LEGO is brilliantly clever with the small touches, and having a bit of a strategy can make all the difference to your day. In this guide, I'm sharing everything we've learnt over the years—from the best rides and money-saving tips to where to stay, Pop Badges, VIP experiences and everything else you need to know before visiting LEGOLAND Windsor.

How to book tickets //

  • It’s always worth buying tickets in advance online. The prices do vary a little by day and season so check the calendar when purchasing.

  • Merlin have upped their deals lately and I’ll try to keep this post updated as often as I can with the best current offers. You can find all of the current ticket options here and currently they’ve also passed on the government’s summer savings for VAT on days out too.

  • Right now you can use this buy one day, get a second theme park of your choice for free for this summer. Book a day ticket before 27th July and enjoy two theme parks for the price of one, with a free second visit between 25th June and 25th September.

  • There used to be SKY VIP deals, the Sun super days out and also the National lottery tickets discount where you could get tickets for just a few pounds but both seem to have stopped now sadly. Sometimes you can find Kellogg’s cereal deals or exchange Tesco Clubcard points.

  • Remember to factor in paying for parking on top of your ticket. You can prebook parking online to save money before the day.

  • If you can visit in term time then this parent & preschooler annual pass is amazing value.

Getting there //

  • The park opens at 10am officially but it’s well worth getting parked by around 9.30am and then walking to the ticket turnstiles to then get through the bag checks & into the outer parts of the theme park. This summer they’ve celebrated their 30th birthday year so there’s a mini show before the park opens too.

Where to Stay at LEGOLAND Windsor

If you're travelling a long way, visiting for a special occasion or simply want the full LEGO experience, I'd highly recommend booking an overnight stay for the ultimate LEGO themed sleepover and extra perks.

There are three on-site accommodation options: the LEGOLAND Resort Hotel, the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel and the Woodland Village Lodges, which are around a 10–15 minute walk from the theme park.

Early Ride Time

One of the biggest perks of staying on-site is Early Ride Time, giving hotel guests access to selected rides 30 minutes before the park opens. You'll be told the evening before which attractions are open, and it's a great opportunity to enjoy some of the most popular rides before the queues build.

Little Extras

The hotels are full of fun surprises for children. Every room includes a treasure hunt, with a safe to unlock using clues hidden around the room. Inside you'll find a small LEGO gift—we've received a LEGO set to build and a lanyard for each child on previous stays.

Our Stay at the LEGOLAND Resort Hotel

We've stayed at the LEGOLAND Resort Hotel and you can choose your room theme before arriving—we opted for the Pirate Room, but there are plenty of themed options to choose from.

Our room had a separate children's sleeping area with triple bunk beds which works well if you’re a family of five.

It's worth knowing that you're paying for the immersive theming and convenience of staying on-site rather than a luxury hotel experience. The rooms are comfortable and fun - but not boutique/luxurious by any means, but it's the atmosphere, entertainment and location that really make the stay worthwhile.

Facilities

The hotel has plenty to keep children entertained after the park closes, including:

  • A large LEGO building area in the lobby

  • An impressive interactive indoor LEGO playroom

  • A small swimming pool (pre-booking required)

  • Outdoor play areas

  • Character meet-and-greets

  • Storytime and evening entertainment

  • LEGO building competitions with prizes

Around a month before your stay you'll receive an email inviting you to book activities, including your swimming slot. The most popular evening sessions fill up quickly, so it's worth booking as soon as possible.

Each evening there's also a LEGO building competition in the hotel lobby. Children can enter by adding their room number to their creation, and it's a lovely extra activity before bedtime.

Food & Breakfast

There are several restaurants and bars on-site. As you'd expect at a theme park, food and drinks are on the expensive side. I spotted a few parents getting food delivered!

Breakfast was included with our stay and offered plenty of choice, including a full English breakfast, pastries, pancakes, fruit, yoghurt and cereals. Make sure you pre-book your breakfast time before arriving.

Woodland Village Lodges

If you're looking for a more affordable option, the Woodland Village Lodges are well worth considering. They're around a 10–15 minute walk from the park and offer a quieter woodland setting with separate children's sleeping areas.

Guests can also enjoy:

  • Free parking

  • Free Wi-Fi

  • LEGO Nature Trail

  • Forest Friends play area

  • Evening character meet-and-greets

Is it Worth Staying at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Yes—especially if it's your first visit or you're celebrating a special occasion. Early Ride Time alone can save you a lot of queueing, and the extra entertainment makes the experience feel much more than just a day at a theme park.

Parking is included with your stay, and many hotel packages currently include a second day in the park for free, making an overnight stay surprisingly good value.

If you'd prefer not to stay on-site, LEGOLAND also offers a selection of nearby partner hotels. These are generally more budget-friendly, include breakfast, and many packages also come with a free second day in the theme park. Find them all here.

Insider Tips for Visiting LEGOLAND Windsor

Start Collecting Pop Badges

One of our favourite things to do at LEGOLAND Windsor is collect and trade Pop Badges. You'll spot plenty of regular visitors (us included!) wearing lanyards covered in colourful badges collected over the years.

The best place to start your collection is the Insiders Club. Complete the challenges and, once you've finished, you'll usually be rewarded with a couple of Pop Badges from the Vault.

You can also collect exclusive badges through certain VIP Experiences and occasionally from the resort hotels or Adventure Golf, although these often sell out quickly.

Once you have a few, you can trade with almost any member of staff for different designs. Before long you'll start spotting the rarer badges—and if you're lucky enough to find the shiny Mr Gold badge, take it to Guest Services to claim a free return visit!

Visit the Main LEGO Shop

Although there are smaller shops around the park, the main LEGO Store near the entrance has the biggest selection.

Keep an eye out for the free Make & Take builds. They're not heavily advertised, but children can follow simple instructions to build a LEGO model to take home. It's usually located near the windows by the main tills, and it's one of our children's favourite little extras.

Pick Up a Free LEGO Passport

Ask at the tills for a free LEGO Passport. You can then collect unique stamps every time you visit a LEGO Store around the world, making it a lovely keepsake if you travel regularly.

Use the Minifigure Scan App

If you're hoping to buy a particular LEGO Minifigure, download the free Minifigure Scan app before you visit. It can scan the QR code on the bottom of the mystery boxes to help identify which character is inside.

Don't Miss Miniland

As tempting as it is to visit Miniland first, we'd actually recommend saving it until later in the day when queues are at their busiest.

It's also a lovely place to stop for a picnic while admiring the incredible LEGO models. Don't rush through—look out for moving trains going through tunnels, boats, marching soldiers and all the tiny details hidden throughout the displays. We still spot something new every visit.

Download the LEGOLAND App

The official app is well worth downloading before you arrive. It shows live queue times, attraction information, show times and an interactive map to help you plan your day.

Bring Swimwear in Summer

If you're visiting during the warmer months, don't forget swimwear and towels. The Splash Safari water play area usually opens from May half term and is always a hit with younger children along with Drench Towers.

Watch LEGO Model Makers at Work

If you're visiting on a weekday, head upstairs in the Insiders Club where you can sometimes watch the talented model makers building and repairing LEGO models used throughout the park.

There Are Plenty of Things to Do Besides the Rides

If the ride queues are long, don't worry. There are lots of fantastic attractions that don't involve queueing, including:

  • The Brick free-build area

  • Formula 1 Build & Race

  • Mythica play area

  • Multiple playgrounds

  • Insiders Club challenges

  • Character meet-and-greets

  • Miniland

Look up the events

This summer they’ve had world cup celebrations but from the 20th July there’s this fab Summer Festival - info here.

Celebrating a Birthday?

If you're celebrating a birthday, pop into Guest Services (just inside the entrance) to collect a free birthday badge. Your name may even appear on celebration boards around the park to make the day feel extra special.

Visit at the Right Time of Year

If you're only planning one visit, we'd recommend visiting between late spring and early autumn when the widest range of rides and attractions are open. During the winter months, some rides close for annual maintenance.

Accessibility

LEGOLAND Windsor offers a range of accessibility facilities, including a sensory room in Heartlake City and quieter shopping periods. If anyone in your group has additional needs, it's worth checking the latest accessibility information before your visit.

Bring a Pushchair (Even for Older Children!)

It's a surprisingly big park, so we still bring a stroller for our children (currently aged 7 and 5). It gives tired legs somewhere to rest and doubles up as somewhere to leave coats and bags while we're on rides. Pushchairs are also available to hire.

Check Height Restrictions Before You Go

Before your visit, have a quick look at the ride height restrictions so there are no surprises on the day. It also makes it much easier to plan your route around the park.

Have a Plan—but Don't Try to Do Everything

One of the best pieces of advice we can give is to have a rough plan for your first few rides. We usually head left into LEGO City first for Driving School, Coastguard HQ and Deep Sea Adventure before checking the queue times for the rest of the day.

That said, don't feel you have to do everything. One of the reasons we love having a Merlin Annual Pass is that we've learnt the best days aren't necessarily the ones where you tick off every ride—they're the ones where you enjoy the atmosphere, stop to build LEGO, explore Miniland and soak up all the little details that make LEGOLAND so special.

Avoid the Biggest Queues

It really depends on which day you go as to how big the queues get, if you can go on a random term weekday {some schools get odd inset days or are closed for voting etc} then you can have a really quiet day. Weekends and school holidays will obviously always be busier. If you want to avoid queues then you can pay for Fast Track. There are different tiers, Bronze, Silver or Gold. Bronze will skip your queue on 3 rides excluding a couple, Silver 6 rides out of all of the rides and Gold completely Unlimited.

  • Look up the height requirements in advance to save any disappointment on the day.

  • Our children are age 7 and 5, their favourite rides have pretty much stayed the same for the past few years. They don’t like scary rides! Here’s our game plan on a typical day there:

  • Head left, through Duplo Valley and queue straight for the Driving School {they have a younger driving school right opposite the bigger version if you have siblings}, then Coast Guard HQ {driving boats}, then the LEGO City Deep Sea Adventure/Submarine, then we tend to look at queue times and will often do: Fairytale Brook, The Whirligig Helicopters, Fire Academy {although this often has such a long queue that we only really do it if we have early access or a fast pass}, Balloon School, the Legoland Express, Duplo Mini train.

  • It depends on your stance but I think it helps having a pass to know you don’t need to do absolutely everything. A worthwhile/fun day would be a few rides and then enjoying everything else there.

  • But there are also tonnes of rides for thrill seekers of all ages! Laser Quests, dualling rollercoasters {Minifigures Speedway} Ninjago, the classic Dragon rollercoaster, Flight of the Skylion is an amazing flying simulator ride, water rides, Haunted Houses, Balloon School to name just a few.

Food/Drinks

We always take a picnic with us but they have lots of restaurants & grab & go options throughout the park. There’s a coffee shop as you go in, an all you can eat Pizza/Pasta buffet in the middle, LEGO themed chips & ice lollies, a Pirate’s Burger Kitchen, Farmer Joe’s Chicken Restaurant, Hot dog stands, a Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop, Ice cream Parlour and stations for unlimited drink refills.

Added extras //

  • you can book LEGO indoor adventure golf which is just off of the main car park, there are three different courses to choose from {space, city and pirate}. We’ve done this before and it was fun but my children were too young at the time to properly play. I think they’re coming up to a good age for it now. If you’re staying on site you can get discounted tickets which makes it around £5 each, it would be a good activity for an evening if you’re staying.

  • Look up the amazing VIP experiences for an extra special experience. We took both of our children to the Shark Feeding experience last weekend as an early Birthday present and it was INCREDIBLE. You park in the Legoland Hotel {free parking} and meet the VIP team at 8.50am and then get taken through the park before it’s open to the Deep Sea Dive submarine ride to meet the marine biologists, get kitted out in a life jacket and taken through the submarine ride to meet the sharks and feed them. It was such a special, memorable morning. You then get to go on the first ride of the day and see everything you’ve just fed from down beneath the water. You also receive a special goody bag which includes certificates, special lanyards, pop badges and a torch. I’d really recommend for any shark loving kids! It completely blew my son’s mind and he didn’t stop asking questions to the marine biologist.

  • There are also VIP Become a Model Maker for the Day and Behind the Bricks Exclusive Behind the scenes after hours along with really special Christmas Packages which include a lot.

  • There’s 25% off VIP entrance for this summer here, from silver, gold to platinum which give unlimited fast past entry so you don’t have to queue for any ride, exclusive early access, free parking, free driving licences, a digital photo pass for the day, gifts, exclusive lanyards & pop badges, some packages include food and drinks and the highest level includes a greeter for the day that will escort you round & a round of Adventure golf. Obviously it doesn’t come cheap BUT it would be such a stress free way to spend a day!

  • They have different events in every season. I’m excited to visit when it’s Halloween this year for Brick or Treat and Christmas! Side note, if you’re a Merlin member then it’s worth booking visits in advance.

  • If your children are really into LEGO/All things LEGOLAND then we really enjoyed watching the two documentaries about it, one is Halloween themed and one is Christmas. I think you can find them on Channel 4 On Demand.

LEGOLAND Windsor FAQs

Is LEGOLAND Windsor worth visiting?

Absolutely! LEGOLAND Windsor is one of the UK's best family theme parks, with over 55 rides, attractions and shows designed mainly for children aged 2–12. From gentle rides for toddlers to exciting rollercoasters and impressive LEGO models, there's something for the whole family.

What age is LEGOLAND Windsor best for?

LEGOLAND Windsor is ideal for children aged 2–12, although older children and adults who love LEGO will also enjoy the park. Many rides have height restrictions, so it's worth checking these before your visit. We’ve taken a baby in a carrier before and there’s the odd ride that they can sit next to you on but not much for that age or many spaces to put them down on the ground either so I’d say it’s definitely for toddlers and above. The toilets are all geared up for younger ones with pull down seats, mini sinks and changing areas.

How many days do you need at LEGOLAND Windsor?

One full day is enough to experience the highlights, but two days if you’re staying will allow you to enjoy more rides at a relaxed pace, revisit favourites and explore the themed lands without rushing. If you’re a pass holder then you can pop in for just half a day & cover different areas each time which is what we do often.

What are the best rides at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Some of our favourites include Flight of the Sky Lion, LEGO City Driving School, Deep Sea Submarine Adventure. Thrill seekers will love the rollercoasters and Log flume.

How can I get cheap LEGOLAND Windsor tickets?

The cheapest tickets are usually available when you book online in advance. You can also save money with Merlin Annual Passes, supermarket promotions, newspaper offers and selected hotel packages. I’ll try to keep this page updated with any fab deals and often share them in my Instagram stories too.

Is it worth staying at a LEGOLAND Windsor hotel?

Yes, especially if you're visiting for two days. Staying at one of the LEGOLAND Resort hotels gives you a fully themed experience, easy access to the park and plenty of extra entertainment for children.

Can you celebrate a birthday at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Yes! LEGOLAND Windsor is a brilliant place to celebrate a birthday. Children can collect a free birthday badge, get their names on the Birthday boards and there are themed hotels and special experiences to make the day even more memorable.

What are LEGOLAND Windsor Pop Badges?

Pop Badges are collectible badges that children (and adults!) can earn around the park by completing challenges, answering questions or taking part in special activities. They're free to collect and make a fun souvenir from your visit.

Can you take your own food into LEGOLAND Windsor?

Yes. You can bring your own picnic, snacks and drinks into LEGOLAND Windsor, making it a great way to save money. There are plenty of picnic areas around the park, although there are also restaurants, cafés and kiosks if you'd rather buy food during your visit.

What time should you arrive at LEGOLAND Windsor?

We recommend arriving at least 30–45 minutes before the park opens. This gives you time to park, go through security and be ready for rope drop, helping you enjoy some of the most popular rides before queues build.

Is LEGOLAND Windsor suitable for toddlers?

Yes! LEGOLAND Windsor has plenty of attractions designed for younger children, including DUPLO Valley, Fairy Tale Brook, splash play areas, gentle rides and interactive play zones. It's one of the best UK theme parks for preschoolers but there’s nothing specifically for babies.

Can you do LEGOLAND Windsor in one day?

Yes, but you'll need to plan your day carefully, especially during school holidays. Arriving early, using the official app and prioritising your favourite rides will help you make the most of your visit.

Is the LEGOLAND Windsor VIP Experience worth it?

If you're celebrating a special occasion or visiting during a busy period, the VIP Experience can be a fantastic way to reduce queue times and enjoy behind-the-scenes extras. Whether it's worth the cost depends on your budget and how much you value skipping the queues.

When is the best time to visit LEGOLAND Windsor?

Weekdays during term time are generally the quietest. If you have to visit during the school holidays, arriving at park opening and avoiding peak lunch times can make a big difference to your day.

Is there free parking at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Parking is charged separately unless it's included with your ticket, hotel package or Merlin Annual Pass. Pre-booking parking online is often cheaper than paying on the day.

Is the LEGOLAND Windsor app worth downloading?

Definitely. The app includes a live queue time tracker, an interactive map, show times, restaurant information and directions around the park, making it much easier to plan your day.
